Thanksgiving 2023

What a beautiful way to spend Thanksgiving. The weather forecast was good at the beginning of the week so we got ourselves booked into Tillebrook Provincial Campground for the weekend (what clever dogs we are). Mom was working nights Wednesday and Thursday so wasn’t able to help with loading up the trailer but she gave strict instructions and typed lists (ugh) to Dad to get it all ready. On the whole he did a pretty good job too. He even loaded up the fresh water tank in case the water was already off.

We headed out about 4pm Friday evening after Dad had finished work (so studious) and Mom had woken up (so lazy). We were both really excited to be off on the road again. I (Maggie) kept barking and yipping and yapping. Dad’s watch kept beeping telling him he was in too loud an environment and needed to go somewhere more quiet … hahaha. Smudge spent a lot of time sitting facing the back of the truck. I think he was longing to get into the trailer. At one point it looked like his butt was so far over the front edge of the seat that he would slide off but somehow he managed to stay in place. I guess the restraint attached to his harness helped.

We stopped on the way and weighed the truck and trailer (it’s a Dad thing) – it was all good but Dad reckons the scale said ‘Umph!’ when we put the trailer on the scale due to the extra weight of the water.

The campground is great. There’s hardly anyone here so it’s really peaceful. The leaves are a beautiful colour and a lot of them have already fallen so it almost looks like there’s no grass just a blanket of yellow and brown leaves all over. We’re in a power only site and the water in the whole campground has been turned off (Dad’s so clever) but it was loverly and warm last night and today when we got back from a hike it was 27 degrees inside.

Mom is preparing potatoes to do on the BBQ and Dad will cook steak tonight. I wonder what Smudge and I will have.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I hope your doggos have a more exciting meal than we will..
